Values
Here at Wolvercote Primary School, we believe that Values based Education is at the heart of all learning, and as a result, we are embarking on a journey to become a Values based Education School.
In October 2014, we welcomed Neil and Jane Hawkes to an INSET day for all Wolvercote colleagues and governors, followed later in the month by a community forum, which saw a large number of parents and carers, colleagues and Year 6 children creating an initial list of positive, universal values which we feel are essential to our school community.
Following these events, we undertook a three-week consultation with our community, and received over 600 votes for a group of values which will be explored over a two-year cycle.
The chosen values for our school are as follows:
January
Respect (A) Happiness (B)
February
Love (A) Perseverance (B)

Vision
Wolvercote Primary School is at the heart of our local community. We strive to serve this community well by providing an outstanding education for the children, and by fostering good relationships between all the children and adults here founded on respect, responsibility and resilience. We pride ourselves on our strong team of capable caring and committed teaching staff, and our cohesive community ethos. We value reflection, open-mindedness and the celebration of difference. We support all children to aim high and reach their full potential, and seek to ensure that every child has opportunities to shine. We ensure that children emerge from our school as confident, well-grounded, independent learners, able to build strong friendships based on kindness, honesty and empathy.
Wolvercote Primary School provides a relevant, broad and stimulating curriculum enriched by creativity through the arts, and to nurture a lifelong love of learning, respecting children’s independent and creative thinking, and stimulating their curiosity and spirit of enquiry. We value highly the outdoor environment to enhance learning opportunities; and recognise the breadth of learning styles and qualities our children bring to school.
Learning at Wolvercote is active, guided by the children’s interests, and teaches that effort and perseverance leads to achievement. We welcome children and their families to our learning community and endeavour to work in partnership for the benefit of each child in our care. We aim to be a whole school learning community which learns from its mistakes as well as from success; we also encourage willingness to have a go at new things, do their best and take appropriate risks. We develop in children a strong sense of self-identity as well as feeling part of a wider community with common goals, and having a sense of their role and responsibility as global citizens.
This vision statement has been drawn up by the staff and Governors of Wolvercote Primary School with consultation with the children and parent and carer community. You can read a summary of the process here. It was agreed by the Governing Body in October 2013 and underpins our continuing work for the development and growth of the school.
